COMMONWEALTH ANTIQUES & APPRAISALS, INC.About Henry Lane HullAntiques Shop - Estate Sales - Appraisals Henry Lane Hull founded Commonwealth Antiques & Appraisals, Inc. in 1973 in Wicomico Church, Virginia. For over two decades, Hull has been appraising antiques, paintings and decorative arts for hundreds of clients throughout Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Hull conducts appraisals for several purposes, such as insurance, post-loss insurance, estate settlement and personal inventory. As a result of the variety of appraisals, Hull's clients include banks, attorneys and estate executors in addition to individuals. He is comfortably familiar with Internal Revenue Service reporting requirements for estate settlement, as he has served as executor or estate administrator for seven estates. Hull has conducted scores of estate sales in a wide geographical area, including Washington, DC and Williamsburg, VA. In conjunction with the estate sale and appraisal work, Hull maintains a shop in an historic Victorian house in Wicomico Church. The shop features fine quality 18th & 19th century English and American furniture and specializes in English pottery, particularly Staffordshire. Hull lectures frequently in the field of antiques and writes a weekly column, "Antiques Considered," published by The Journal Press papers. Born in Washington, DC, Hull spent his childhood jointly in Colonial Beach, VA and Washington, DC. He holds a Ph.D. in History from Georgetown University in Washington, DC and taught history for 15 years at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He is married to Lisa Keefe Hull, who participates in the business with him, and the couple has two children. Hull's interest in antiques and the decorative arts dates to his childhood, when he bought his first antique at age five.
